What is Broom Finished or Brushed Concrete?

Broom Finished and Brushed Concrete are one and the same. Broom/Brushed Concrete is concrete with a textured finish that is applied to freshly poured concrete with the use of a broom to create fine grooves on the surface of the concrete. The broomed in grooves give great texture and traction to this type of concrete.

Broom finished concrete is ideal for use as a pool deck but is also used in sidewalks, driveways, roads, and bridges. Broom finished concrete texture remains very tractive even when wet which makes it ideal for high traffic and wet areas like that of a pool deck where children will be running in spite of many warnings from their parents.

Broom finished concrete is also the most cost-effective type of pool deck material. Broom Finished or Brushed Concrete starts out around $10.00-$11.00 per square foot based on the complexity of the pool deck and the amount of square footage.

Here is a great video explaining how broom finished concrete is poured around a pool.
