What is a Plunge Pool?

What is a Plunge Pool?

Contrary to its moniker a plunge pool isn't for plunging into. To be blunt the term Plunge Pool is a fancy name for a small pool. Typically flat bottom in nature. A Plunge Pool is typically in-ground and smaller than 14x28 in dimension. The Plunge Pool is a small pool that is ideal for small yards, intimate settings or tight spaces. A Plunge Pool is large enough to soak in and relax the day away yet not large enough to actually plunge into. Most Plunge Pools are about the same size as the modern swim spa.

How Big are Plunge Pools?

Generally speaking, plunge pools are 14'x28' or smaller. Many fiberglass pool manufacturers offer varying size pool models in this classification. River Pools offers the R20 Fiberglass Pool Model which is perfect for use as a plunge pool. The R20 is 10' wide by 20' long and is available in 3 standard colors.

How Deep is a Plunge Pool?

Plunge pools are typically flat bottom pools ranging from a depth of 3.5' to 4.5' with a flat bottom. The flat bottom makes a plunge pool a great option for low-impact exercise or physical therapy.

Can a plunge pool be customized?

Absolutely. The River Pools R20 Fiberglass Pool can be accessorized with Therapy Jets on any of the benches and a swim jet can be installed in the far end of the pool wall for a swim in place style workout.

What are the Benefits of a Plunge Pool?

The small size of a plunge pool is a benefit to someone who has a small yard or for someone who prefers a compact pool surrounded by extensive landscaping, gardening, plantings, flowers, etc.

The next benefit of a small pool is that it generally costs less than its larger brethren. A small pool means you can keep more money in your pocket or use those savings to create a beautiful poolscape around your plunge pool.

Limitations of a Plunge Pool

Plunge Pools won't be able to accommodate as many people as a traditional or larger in-ground pool. The shallow depth of a Plunge Pool eliminates the ole Cannonball as well.

The Moral of the Story

Plunge Pools can be as elaborate as any other type of pool and at a fraction of the cost. If you have an intimate setting or a small yard a Plunge Pool might be the right choice for you. For more info on our Plunge Pool, the R20 Fiberglass Pool Check out the links below.
