The Advantages & Disadvantages of a Tanning Ledge!

THE TANNING LEDGE

What exactly is a tanning ledge. A tanning ledge is a shallow area typically 12" or shallower in a pool where a person could lay down and relax and enjoy being in the water without the need to be swimming. Tanning Ledges are the hottest trend in all types of pools over the last few years with good reason. They do look pretty cool, but like everything in life there are some definite drawbacks that you should take into consideration before taking the plunge into pool ownership.

TANNING LEDGE PROS

Tanning Ledges look incredible and you can add great features to them like led lighting and bubblers. Tanning Ledges are perfect for the hot new pool toy the "LedgeLounger". This chair is designed specifically for a tanning ledge. It allows you to relax partially submerged in the warm water of the pool. Not only do they look cool but a tanning ledge is a great area for small children to safely play without the need to tread water. That's a big reason our D Series Fiberglass Pool from River Pools is a great seller.

TANNING LEDGE CONS

To me, there really is only one downside to the tanning ledge and that's the fact that the tanning ledge eats up a lot of usable space in the pool. On our D Series Fiberglass Pool the Tanning Ledge is 7' from front to back. Thats a pretty big chunk of prime real estate that is no longer swimmable. The other slight downside would be that it costs more to install a pool with a tanning ledge and it takes longer to complete as well. While I wouldn't really consider these disadvantages of a tanning ledge it is definitely something that needs to be considered before purchasing a fiberglass pool with a tanning ledge.
