Fiberglass Pool Design Theory: American VS Australian

AMERICA VS AUSTRALIA

I have to admit that I am completely biased and think that anything American is best but for this article, I will try to put my feelings aside to delve into the different styles of Fiberglass Pool Design in Australia and America and how they are both influencing each other.

CHICKEN OR THE EGG?

There is some debate on whether the fiberglass pool originated in the United States or Australia. San Juan Fiberglass Pools claims that they invented the fiberglass pool back in the 1960s. On the other hand, I have seen several Australian Fiberglass Pool Manufactures make similar claims. Regardless of who invented the fiberglass pool, there are very distinct differences in design style in both.

HEAD-TO-HEAD STYLE COMPARISON

To better illustrate the differences I thought it would be easier to just show you. Below are a few of the most popular design styles in the States and Down Unda. Take a look for yourself

AUSTRALIAN FIBERGLASS POOLS

Fiberglass Pools from "Down Unda" are a little bit different than their American Counterparts. The first thing that stuck out to me is that Aussies call "Pool Models", " Pool Ranges". Which is a unique little quirk. In regards to Australian Pool Ranges, The Fiberglass pools manufactured in Australia are often narrower and smaller than America Fiberglass Pools. The Steps and benches are a little different as well. Australian Pools tend to feature 45-degree angles at the end of their steps and benches. They also tend to feature more steps as well. Australian Fiberglass Pools tend to be more modern/contemporary as well. Once you look at the designs for a while it becomes pretty obvious which pools are from Australia.

AMERICAN FIBERGLASS POOLS

The biggest difference to me is that American Fiberglass Pools are bigger and wider. They also feature more rounded and gentle curves in the benches, steps, and tanning ledges. American Fiberglass Pools seem to be designed to better accommodate a wider range of home styles as well. While not as contemporary as Australian Pool Ranges, American Pools can seamlessly be incorporated into the yard of a contemporary home.

FIBERGLASS POOL DESIGN TRENDS

To me, it appears that as Australian Fiberglass Pool Manufacturers are trying to gain a foothold in the American Fiberglass Pool Market that the trend for their pool design is slowly changing to incorporate more of the American styling and transition away from the stylings of the past. I wouldn't say one is better than the other, they both have pros and cons and both are available in the American Market. Next time you are looking at fiberglass pools see if you can pick out the differences yourself.
