How much do Above Ground Pools Cost?

Updated: Feb 6, 2021

To help potential pool owners get the answers to their most critical questions about above ground pool pricing we put together this article. Together we will dive into the actual cost of owning an above ground pool.

Most Pool Companies offer a prebuilt pool package which typically includes everything you need to get going minus the installation. That is where the similarities stop. Some retailers focus on selling the lowest-cost pool packages possible while others do the opposite. A typical pool package includes the Pool structure itself, a liner, a skimmer and return, pool cove, and a maintenance kit. Some may also include a ladder or step, a solar cover, winter cover, Pool Frog or Nature 2 system a pool light, or an automatic pool cleaner. The common theme is that these are still all above ground pool systems that are not designed to last as long or be as efficient as in-ground pool equipment. Thus adding to the long term cost of ownership by replacing hoses, filters, gaskets, pumps, etc. Pool Package prices can range widely from $3,500.00 for an entry-level package with no installation to $16,000.00 for a complete pool package with pool installation like the Advanced Luxury Above Ground Pool Package from Pool Pros

Most Pool Companies sell the pool packages then you are on your own for installation. Typical pool installation costs are based on the size of the pools and range from $1,700.00 to $3,500.00 for an experienced quality pool builder.

A permit will be required for you to build your pool. Permits typically cost around $50.00.

Your new pool will need to have electrical service provided to it by a licensed electrician according to the latest National Electric Code or local requirements. This can vary widely based on what type of pool equipment is provided with your pool package but you can anticipate spending $2,500-$3,500 to have this service provided.

If your pool is equipped with a pool heater you will need a gas line installed to the heater. The cost of this is based on the length of run from the gas meter on the side of your house to the heater. The cost ranges from $1,000-$2,500 or more based on the length of the run.

All above-ground pools that are not 52" or more above the ground are required to have a fence with a locking gate around the entire pool. To fence in the average size above ground pool which is a 24' round pool would cost about $4,000.00

To get access and full use of your above ground pool the majority of pool owners will build a deck around the pool. the cost of a full deck around the average size above ground pools will start at $30,000.00 and go up from there based on size, decking type i.e. treated, cedar, or composite.

Most Above Ground Pool Owners will do some type of landscaping around the pool and or deck to tie it all into their existing landscaping. Incorporating landscape lighting and or a fire pit will also add some character to an above-ground pool project. The typical cost to do minimal landscaping around an above ground pool will range from $1,500-$3,500.00

The cost to fill a pool from your garden hose will typically cost around $400.00 for the average-sized above ground pool.

Now that we have gone through all of the components required to owning an above-ground pool let's break it all down and get you a realistic cost. Lastly don't forget but Above Ground Pools are taxable because they are not a permanent part of your property. #realproperty
